The clients brief for this project was to transform the existing ground floor from a series of small dark rooms to a large uplifting space.
This extension is all about natural light. The predominantly West facing façade offered great opportunity for fantastic afternoon light that was exploited via large almost frameless sliding doors. Everyday sunlight streams through large high level South facing strip windows washing the sloping ceiling from midday though to evening. The outline of the contemporary kitchen cabinets are picked up and defined by the walls above and a frameless glass rooflight provides real drama.
Externally natural materials including Shou Sugi Ban timber cladding (burnt larch) and natural granite harmonise with the garden.
