This house features in the RTE television show Kin, Season 2 as Eric Kinsella’s house (Viking).
It is a full renovation, upgrade and remodel of a cold house located in a 1970s suburb of Foxrock.
The existing house was poorly laid out and compromised by a low roof line. We remodelled the internal plan adding extensive additional floor area to either side of the roof to accommodate 4 large bedrooms, walk-in wardrobe and two bathrooms. At ground floor we created a large modern open plan suitable for a modern family.
We used a simple material palette throughout. Polished concrete floors at ground floor conceal underfloor heating. A solid oak stair is bathed in light from a rooflight. Impressive minimum sight line sliding doors open from the kitchen out to the patio area. The project is complemented by a fully fitted kitchen by Michael Farrell Custom Furniture featuring an external window to provide a splashback feature.
The house is now heavily insulated, air tight and has a low energy air to water heat pump allowing it to achieve an excellent ‘A’ rated energy efficiency.
